The knife sharpener is why I deducted one star. It's crap. The plastic is cheap and feels like if you hold it too tight it will crack and when I tried sharpening my knives, not only did it too a poor job but the blades looked chewed up.
Now the magnetic holder, on the other hand, seems to be pretty good quality. I put my heaviest knives on this thing to see if it would hold them and it did, I even put my sharpening steel on it for good measure and it held quite nicely. I also noticed someone else said they thought it would hold through an earthquake so I (this is NOT a safe idea, do NOT try this at home) took the holder with the knives and shook it vigorously. The knives stayed but the did move around a tad. So they may stay, but during an earthquake I wouldn't chance it by being anywhere near them.
The packaging also doubles as a template for attaching it to the wall. All in all, minus the sharpener, this is a quality piece.
